Initially, especially before 2009, the admission processes in the junior and degree colleges of general streams of education in Odisha, had been quite mammoth tasks involving lots of complicated methods. However, from 2009 onwards, with the emergence of the Student Academic Management System (SAMS), the days of hardships passed. With the successful handling of 8,00,000 seats in over 3,000 institutions by SAMS in 2022, 2023 is expected to witness further popularity of SAMS.

The aim of SAMS is:

• To employ Information Technology to achieve transparency in the process of college admissions.
• To take care of the interests of the students/guardians by reducing the cost of admission.
• To enhance the productivity of the college machinery with respect to academic matters.
• To offer a host of services to the students and colleges after admission in a quick time.
